Please join Great Bend Alive, GBK’s Main Street Organization, in continuing the Downtown Holiday Window Decorating contest. We hope to entice shoppers and visitors back to our beautiful and historic downtown! Click the button above. Great Bend Alive is accepting applications now for the Window Decorating Contest located in downtown Great Bend. If you want to participate and don’t have a business downtown, you may sign up to decorate one.

 

Business owners/window decorators must submit their application by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, to be included in the judging. Judging will begin November 21st and end Nov. 29th. A judging panel from outside the community will evaluate the downtown windows and name a Judges’ 1st and 2nd place awards. Ballots will be available for the general public to select a window for the People’s Choice award.

 

CONTEST PRIZES 

We hope this event will promote lots of activity downtown during the holiday season. What better way to kick off the holidays and celebrate a successful season than to have a contest with cash prizes?! 

 

DOWNTOWN WINDOW DECORATING CONTEST GUIDELINES 

• Contest windows must be completed and ready for judging by 5 pm on November 20, 2024 

• The judging period will run from November 21 through Nov. 29, 2024

• Winners will be announced on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 through local media channels. 

• We strongly recommend your window be lit up in some way at night. With thousands of people walking our downtown area, it’s the perfect opportunity for them to view your windows and be attracted to visit your business.

• The contest is for window decorations visible from the exterior only. Judging will be done from outside the building.

• Displays must be family-friendly. Be creative, be festive, and have fun. 

 

Judging criteria include:

Originality - The original and creative concept of the design.

Workmanship - Detail in design and craftsmanship of objects with the successful use of colors and materials.

General Presentation - An overall effective presentation in beauty and creativity.

Lights - Creativity in the use of lights.

No cost or fees apply.

The contest is limited to business windows in the Great Bend Downtown area.

If you want to participate and don’t have a downtown business, opportunities exist to decorate vacant windows. Vacant window availability is limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact our staff at 620-796-2407 or info@gbedinc.com. Independent decorators have the option to coordinate with a business owner for window decorating. Such agreements are strictly between a business owner and decorator.
